Ginger Nut Designs is a web and graphic design company founded by Jason Enright. Originally located in Guadalajara (in deepest darkest Spain) in 2007, the company has been located in Notting Hill (west London) since 2013.
Jason studied Spanish and Teaching English as a Foreign Language at Middlesex University, and completed his Erasmus year at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid. Since then he has accumulated an extensive background in language teaching, translation, web and graphic design, and social media management. Below you can read a brief summary of Jason’s experience.
After moving to Spain, Jason followed the path of many . His first – and almost last – teaching post was on a children’s summer camp in the mountains of Albacete. While this was a rewarding experience, he soon realised that he was better suited to teaching adults. He then worked in a number of language academies in and around Madrid, teaching English to adult students of all levels. He also provided in-house English classes to businesses located within the financial area of Madrid. In addition, he also gave private 1:1 and group classes, focusing on grammar, conversation and interview preparation.
Looking for new challenges, Jason ventured into the world of translation and proofreading on a freelance basis. This involved working on projects as diverse as technical patents, professional CVs, and proofreading translations carried out by others. During this time, he also had the privilege of collaborating on several European Union funded projects (agriculture, immigration and tourism) which were later presented before EU committees. He also worked as an in-house proofreader and corrector at a Madrid-based translation company for a period.
Whilst living in Guadalajara, he also worked with local NGOs on several international projects, providing simultaneous translation during press conferences, round table discussions, school visits and interviews with local and regional politicians. He also provided translations of press articles.
In search of a web content management at Spanish oil company Repsol. His initial role was the translation of in-house contents from Spanish into English. As the website expanded, this role changed to that of content manager for the international (English language) version of the company website, as well as the Guía Campsa travel website. In addition, he also played an active role in the content management of the Spanish version of the website. Some of the projects Jason worked on during this time included: Spanish Beach Guides, the Año Xacobeo and the IV Centenary of the publication of Don Quixote. This involved writing original content in Spanish, as well as proofreading content provided by external providers.
During his time at Repsol, the company also launched several new language versions of its website. Jason assisted with implementation of these new versions, most notably overseeing the launch of Repsol Portugal in conjunction with colleagues from Lisbon.
Spurred on by his role at Repsol, Jason decided to embark on a new path; to become a web designer. In order to do so, he took a couple of years out to train in web and graphic design at Forem, Guadalajara. After completing his studies, he worked mainly with a number of local small businesses to modernise their websites and improve their online presence. In 2009, Jason returned to London and since then he has been working closely with a number of companies from the health and fitness sector.
